How to Expand Consciousness
The answer is: We do it by seeking to understand our dreams, our disappointments, what moves us and what blocks us, what we feel, what we love and what we hate... and so on.A more in-depth path to consciousness expansion is understanding what is happening to other people, the planet, and the universe we inhabit.
Most of what we do in our daily lives comes from automatic responses that we give to things that happen to us. These automatic responses are unconscious, and we do not realize them until we have already responded. We act on impulse. This way of acting impulsively is defined as a reaction.
The expansion of consciousness allows us to verify the consequences of our actions before we have committed them. It makes us more apt to make better choices before we act. Having more control of our actions means having more control over our lives.
Having more control of our actions means having more control over our lives.
Three basic ways to expand our consciousness are through our brain, our mind, and our intuition.
BRAIN – The brain receives and decodes our sensations through the five physical senses (hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch). These sensations can either be conscious or unconscious. The brain always uses our personal experiences, efforts, and decisions in this decoding and interpretation mechanism. Perception through the senses is very important in our ordinary life, but it is limited. This, however, does not mean that it cannot be developed. Many people who lose their sight are examples of this, since, after losing their sight, they tend to develop a much more accurate hearing than the average person.
MIND – The mind, however, has no limit or judgment to perception. To the mind everything is real and has the same level of importance. It cannot differentiate between a survival situation and a transient stress situation. Therefore, it decodes everything as a need for survival. The mind, like the brain, also takes personal experiences, efforts, and decisions into account. The mind is abstract and produces thoughts. The brain is concrete and follows the thoughts produced by the mind to do its work in the functioning of our body.
INTUITION – Intuition is a more refined method of perception. Intuition can sometimes also be defined as the Sixth Sense. It comes from a higher place in ourselves, which we can call the “Higher Self”. We all have much more knowledge and wisdom than we think we do. It is very common to think of our Higher Self as something very big that is outside, somewhere that we cannot define, when, in fact, it is inside each of us.
To access our intuition, it is necessary to calm our mind, which will make our brain calm down too. If the mind is at peace, our internal voice will be heard, bringing us solutions, and pointing us to the best way forward. When we don't access our intuition, we are denying our potential for achievement.
Developing our perception in the sensory, mental, and intuitive fields means expanding our consciousness. Below are ten ways to do it. These ways are effective, but they are not the only ones. Each of us can discover and practice the ones we like the most. Expanding consciousness can be easy and enjoyable, but it doesn't have to be done all at once. You can choose one of these ways and start there. Remember that the big changes that stick are the ones that are made in small steps.
TEN WAYS TO EXPAND CONSCIOUSNESS:
01. Develop intention – In order to know yourself and make the necessary changes for your growth as a human being, the first thing to do is to develop the intention to follow this path.
02. Trust, feel, and reflect – Trust your inner voice. Feel your emotions and define and name your feelings. Reflect on what you want to change. Question old habits that no longer serve you and develop new ones.
03. Pay attention to your unconscious reactions and turn them into conscious actions – Realize the emotions that make you react without thinking and know each one of them. These emotions will show you the exact moment when you can choose the appropriate response. This appropriate response is called “action” and gives you the opportunity to make the right decisions.
04. Connect with Something Greater – Breathe, calm your mind, and seek for connection with your Creator, Ascended Masters, Spirit Guides, Angels, or Higher Self. The important thing is to get out of the day-to-day sameness and connect with Something Greater than you. The three most common ways to make a connection are:
• Prayer, which is a sincere and profound conversation with the Divine.
• Meditation, which is the search for silence and inner serenity.
• Reflection, which is looking at yourself and listening to what your intuition tells you about the topic you choose to reflect on.
05. Get out of your comfort zone - Know your limiting beliefs and overcome your fears. Do the new things you've always wanted to do. Run after your dreams and work on your life purpose.
06. Get to know and overcome your ego – That part of you that wants to protect you so much but ends up taking away your power of accomplishment.
07. Live in the present – Let the past go and learn to trust the future.
08. Select what is important and leave what is not important aside – Don’t hold on to what doesn't bring benefits to your mental, emotional, and spiritual growth.
09. Take care of yourself - Remember that you are a very important person, and look for a healthy lifestyle - do physical exercises regularly, eat well, and drink plenty of water. Learn to love yourself and learn to be loved. Make time to be alone. Appreciate nature and recognize how blessed you are.
10. Keep learning – When we begin to learn, we begin to question. When we begin to question, we begin to understand. When we begin to understand, we begin to expand our consciousness. When we begin to expand our consciousness, we begin to question even more… but, at this time we will do it with a progressively bigger vision of where we want to go and how we will get there.
You don't have to be perfect. Just do the best you can do. And if you can't do it well or if you make mistakes, don't blame yourself. Keep going and practice. The most important part of it is to become a better person every day. This is how we expand our consciousness.
